Completed Projects:
H&M Herald Square, New York, USA
Situation:
The new flagship H&M clothing store located at Herald Center in Manhattan, New York is the largest H&M store in the world. When the building owner began renovations to prepare the historic building for the store opening, some serious flooring issues where discovered. The 90 year-old floors required leveling before new large format porcelain tiles could be installed by six union tile crews throughout the space.
Challenges:
- Three month installation time frame
- 52,000+ square foot installation area
- Installers first time using ARDEX tiling products
- Renovation of 100 year old building to accommodate large retail space
- Agglomerate tiles to be set with non-staining tile and stone mortar
Solutions:
Schimenti Construction sub-contracted all tile work to L&L Stone and Tile, LLC of Hicksville NY because of their experience and pristine track record working with H&M for more than five years. ARDEX’s Dan Costanza and L&L’s VP, Lenny Saftchick designed a solution utilizing appropriate products an installation application that would be reliable and warrantied to avoid any liability. “Forty-six thousand square feet of variously-sized, large-format porcelain tiles were installed by as many as 40 union L&L Stone and Tile crew members.”
Participants:
- Installer: L&L Stone and Tile, LLC – Hicksville, NY
- General Contractor: Schimenti Construction – Ridgefield, CT
